The Bikini Incision

Physicians: Have you started using this approach for your THA surgeries? Let’s talk about why Ryan Molli, D.O. prefers this approach for his private practice patients at Whole Health Orthopedic Institute.

One main advantage of the bikini incision approach is utilizing Langer’s Lines versus traditional vertical incision. We’re also using a soft issue preservation incision so we’re putting very minimal to no tension on the incision. You can see this in Dr. Molli’s bikini style approach surgical video at: wholehealthjri.com/videos

Next is reducing wound breakdowns and wound complication rates. When a patient has a traditional vertical incision, it can be affected when they sit down at the crease of the hip. By using the bikini incision, wound breakdown and complications have gone down significantly as well as deep infections rate.

In addition, I have all of my bikini incision patients wear spandex post operatively to help support, put pressure and protect the incision as it heals since we have undermined the tissue both #distally and #proximally to the incision.

Lastly, an added bonus, is the post operative aesthetics the bikini incision provides for patients. The scar goes along the crease of the bikini line resulting in a less visible and more aesthetically pleasing outcome for the patient.
